If you have spent any time on the social casino subreddits, you have seen the word churning. It comes from the credit card world, where churners open cards for the sign-up bonus and move on. In social casinos it means the same idea: join a casino, collect the free coins it gives new players, play them through, cash out what you can, and keep claiming the daily bonus for as long as it is worth it.
I have been doing this for about two years, though I call it sweepstakes farming. Same hobby, different name. Here is how it works, what it is worth, and the rules that keep you out of trouble.
Social Casino or Sweepstakes Casino?
Most US sites that call themselves social casinos are sweepstakes casinos. They run two currencies: Gold Coins, which are for fun only, and Sweeps Coins (SC), which you can redeem for cash or gift cards once you play them through. Churning only works at those dual-currency sites. A pure social casino with play coins only has nothing to redeem, so there is nothing to churn.
More casinos and review sites have used the social casino label since states started banning sweepstakes casinos. The model underneath hasn't changed, and neither have the state rules. Check our social and sweepstakes casino legal states map before you sign up anywhere.
Churning vs. Farming: Two Different Paydays
People use the words loosely, but there are really two parts to this, and they pay very differently.
- Sign-up churningis collecting each casino's no-purchase welcome bonus, usually a few free SC. You can only do it once per casino, so it is a spike, not an income. My best month ever came from cashing out a batch of sign-up bonuses at once, and it never repeated.
- Daily farming is claiming every daily login bonus, every day, at every casino you have joined. Each one is small, often 0.10 to 1 SC, but it never runs out. After the sign-up spike, this is what kept paying me month after month.
The players who stick with it do both: churn the sign-up bonus once, then keep the casino in a daily rotation if its daily bonus is worth the time. Our sign-up bonus guide covers the first part and the daily bonus ranking covers the second.
How Social Casino Churning Works, Step by Step
- Sign up with no purchase. Every legitimate sweepstakes casino has a free way to play. The welcome SC usually lands after you verify your email or phone.
- Verify your identity early. You will need ID before your first redemption anyway, and it is the most common reason a first payout stalls. Do it on day one.
- Play the SC through once. Sweeps Coins usually need a 1x playthrough before they can be redeemed. Low-volatility slots stretch a small balance further.
- Claim the daily bonus every day. This is the step people drop. Streak casinos reset if you miss a day, so a missed morning can cost you a week of progress.
- Redeem when you cross the minimum. Minimums vary: 50 SC is the most common across the casinos I track, some are 10 SC, and a few sit at 100 SC. A low minimum matters more than a big welcome bonus if you play for free.
- Track every cash-out. Casino, date, method, amount, and when the money arrived. It shows you which casinos are worth keeping.
What It's Actually Worth
Over ten months I logged 52 cash-outs from 23 casinos, about $3,500 net after roughly $1,800 of promo packs. The median payout arrived 3 days after I asked for it. That is one experienced player claiming bonuses at 20+ casinos every day, not a typical result, and promos that didn't pay off aren't in that number.
The honest version: free-only churning builds slowly. A single casino's daily bonus might take months to reach a redemption minimum. Twenty of them, claimed every day, add up to something real. That is the whole game.
The Rules That Get Churners Banned
- One account per person. Most casinos also limit accounts per household or device. Duplicate accounts are the fastest way to lose a balance.
- No VPNs. Play only from a state where the casino operates. A VPN to dodge a state ban breaks the terms and can void your winnings.
- Use your real details. Your name and address have to match your ID and your bank, or the redemption will fail.
- Read the terms. Bonus rules change often, and some casinos set limits on promotions or third-party tools. Five minutes with the terms is cheaper than a frozen account.
Should You Buy Promos?
You never have to. No purchase is necessary at any sweepstakes casino, and some of my cash-outs came with nothing bought. When I do buy, I keep it small and only at casinos that pay fast: a $10 first-purchase deal at a casino that pays in two days beats a $100 pack at one that pays in a month. Every purchase is a risk, so only spend what you are fine losing.
The Hard Part Is Showing Up
Churning a sign-up bonus takes ten minutes. Claiming twenty daily bonuses every single day is the part that wears people down, and it is where most of the value is. That is the job I built my routine around: Sweeps Farmer claims my daily bonuses in Chrome every morning, so a busy day doesn't break a streak.
Most of all, keep it fun. Treat anything you redeem as a bonus, track it for taxes, since prizes are generally taxable income in the US, and if it stops being fun, stop.
Sweeps Farmer earns a referral reward when you join some casinos through our links. 18+ only. No purchase is necessary at any sweepstakes casino. Availability depends on your state.
